Delicious moist muffins packed with chocolate chips that are quick and easy to put together and bursting with chocolate flavor!

We recently had one of the best days we could have asked for – my husband and I took our son to his first Packer game! We had the most beautiful weather, the Packers played their BEST GAME EVER, we had great seats, and good company. It was just an all around really awesome day. I LOVE those days!
But, we noticed something disheartening while soaking up this experience. Next to us was a father and his teenage son. The father starred at his phone the ENTIRE THREE HOURS of the game! As much as we tried to mind our own business it distracted us. I just wanted to tell him to put his phone away and have fun with his son. They barely talked to each other!
What has happened?! Why are phones getting in the way of connecting with people? Adults and children alike are hiding behind screens and bullying each other. Parents have distanced themselves from their children while they are sitting right next to each other! People are texting and driving and some drivers can’t even patiently wait at a light without checking their phone!
All of us are connected to our phone through social media, email, our calendars, camera, contacts, etc. I don’t think I’ve met anyone who doesn’t rely on their smart phone for some reason. The problem lies in the addiction to it. There seems to be a need that people feel to mindlessly look at it for extended periods of time letting it get in the way of spending time with the people they love. I’m not suggesting we stop texting and start using carrier pigeons! What I am asking, begging actually, is that we find balance. Establish when it’s appropriate to catch up on Facebook and when it’s not. And stick to it.
Alright, now that I’ve cleared my mind let’s salivate over these Chocolate Banana Muffins! Better yet, grab your kids and make a batch with them. And then stick one in their lunch with a note that says how much you love them!

How to Make Chocolate Banana Muffins

- Line a muffin tin with liners and spray the liners with non-stick spray.
- In a large bowl, mix together 1 3/4 cup flour, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, and 1/2 tsp salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix together 1/2 cup oil, 1/2 cup milk, 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 1 cup mashed banana (about 3 bananas).
- Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients and mix together until well combined.
- Mix in 1/2 cup chocolate chips. Or more if you’d like!
- For the a small muffin (pictured), fill each cup about 3/4 full with batter and sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top and bake for 18-20 minutes.
- For a large muffin, fill each cup just about to the top with batter and sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top and bake for 21-23 minutes.
- Ovens vary so bake at the lowest suggested time. Check to see if the muffins are done by inserting a toothpick into the center of a muffin. If they need to bake a little longer, only add 1 minute at a time until the toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow muffins to cool for 5 minutes in the pan, then remove the muffins and place on a wire rack to completely cool.

Tips for Making Chocolate Banana Muffins
- The chocolate chips mixed in the batter don’t rise to the top while baking. So I like to sprinkle a few on top of the batter right before placing into the oven!
- For a small muffin, fill the cups with batter 3/4 of the way.
- For a large muffin, fill the cups just about to the top of the muffin liner! You’ll need to bake for a few minutes longer.
- Muffin liners are not required. If you’d like, skip them and just spray the muffin pan with non-stick spray!
