2-Ingredient Red Velvet Cake Mix Donuts for Valentine’s Day
My husband is NOT romantic. At all. We joke between the two of us about it and his defense is always, ‘But I do the dishes AND the laundry!’ Touché.
Here’s the thing… the definition of romance has changed as I’ve gotten older. I’ve found I appreciate thoughtfulness way more than romance. For example, the other day I grabbed my flour canister and it was full. He had gone out of his way to fill it for me!
Then there was the time something very embarrassing happened to me; my husband said it was him, when really it was me. And, my water bottle is always filled and on the counter ready for me, every dish I ever need to bake with is always clean and ready to use, and he puts me first before making plans or decisions. I feel loved, and if stocking the toilet paper, taking out the garbage, and getting the oil changed in my car is his way of romancing me – I’ll take it!

Recipe Notes:
- Sprinkles – Use any holiday sprinkles you’d like! And make sure to sprinkle while the icing is still wet.
- Dipping in the Icing – When dipping into the glaze, be sure to hold onto the bottom while turning the donut upside down to dip into the glaze. Once the donut is dipped, turn right side up and place onto a cooling rack or parchment paper. You may need to poke the center of the donut gently with a toothpick if the icing doesn’t drop down the center on it’s own.
- Frosting – The frosting doesn’t have to be melted, you can spread on as is if desired.
- Swap – You could use mashed bananas instead of applesauce if you’d like!
