Easy to make creamy, buttery homemade mashed potatoes that can be served as traditional side dish!

Creamy Mashed Potatoes
There is something about making Mashed Potatoes that makes me feel like I’ve arrived to adulthood. They don’t stand alone, so I feel compelled to make Vegetarian Meatballs and Easy Garlic Knots to go with! And I know my husband will be pacing in excitement for a nice meal, so naturally I need to make his favorite dessert – No Bake Cheesecake Bars. By the time the meal comes together, I feel like a grown woman serving a Thanksgiving meal on a random Tuesday!
The best part about these Creamy Mashed Potatoes is they can be made ahead of time and you can add as much butter and garlic and onion powder as you want. Make them exactly how you like them!

What You’ll Need:
- 5 lbs Yukon Gold Potatoes
- 1 cup Sour Cream
- 6 oz Cream Cheese
- 4 tbsp Butter
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- Salt
- Parsley, Optional

How to Make the Best Homemade Mashed Potatoes
- Wash and peel 5 lbs of Yukon Gold Potatoes. Chop into large pieces.
- Boil the potatoes in a large pot until tender. Note: Test readiness by poking a fork into a piece of potato. If it falls apart, it’s ready.
- Drain the potatoes and transfer to a large bowl.
- Add in 1 cup sour cream, 6 oz cream cheese, 4 tbsp butter, 1 tsp garlic powder, and 1 tsp onion powder. Add salt to taste and parsley if desired.
- Whip together with a hand mixer until well combined.
Tips & Substitutions:
- Make ahead – You can easily make these ahead of time! Once made, put into a 9 x 13 pan and cover with aluminum foil. Then reheat at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, stirring half way through.
- Potatoes – You don’t have to use Yukon Gold potatoes, Russet works just fine. It’s just a matter of preference.
- Chopping – Cutting the potatoes into smaller pieces help them boil and soften faster.
- Vegan – You can easily make this recipe vegan by using vegan sour cream, cream cheese, and butter.
