A light quick and easy no bake treat that makes you look and feel fancy with very little effort!
One of the most exciting and thrilling things I have experienced in my years of baking is letting go of thinking I have to follow a recipe exactly. A good rule of thumb is to make the recipe as instructed for your first attempt and then tweak it until you love it. Sometimes I skip that part and just take the risk of the recipe not turning out! Most of the time I am pretty happy with just going for it!
I apply what I have learned from other recipes to different things that I make. For example, I learned from making Chocolate Chip Cookie Delight that you don’t have to use the amount of milk required to make Jello. The back of a Jell0 pudding box says to use 2 cups of milk with 1 box of pudding, right? But the less milk you use, the thicker the pudding gets AND the faster it sets. Meaning you can eat it sooner! So I use 1 1/2 cups of milk instead of 2 cups of milk for thicker pudding in these Mini Chocolate Pudding Pies!
Ingredients for Mini Chocolate Pudding Pies
- Mini Graham Cracker Crusts
- Milk
- Instant Jello Pudding
- Whip Cream, Optional
How to Make Mini Chocolate Pudding Pies
- Open the package of mini pie crusts and distribute on the counter so they are ready for the pudding.
- Prepare 1 package of Instant Jello Chocolate Pudding with 1 1/2 cups of milk. Beat together well.
- Once mixed well, quickly distribute/pour pudding evenly between 6 mini pie crusts. Place in refrigerator until set. It will only take a few minutes!
- If topping with whip cream, wait until right before serving. The whip cream will melt!
What Graham Cracker Crust Should Be Used for Mini Chocolate Pudding Pies?
I use the Keebler Ready Crust Mini Pie Crust, they work great!
Tips for Making and Storing Mini Chocolate Pudding Pies
- Once the pudding is made, quickly distribute the pudding evenly between the pie crusts. The pudding will set quickly because you are using less milk that the Jello box calls for.
- Pour, don’t spoon, pudding into pie crusts. Using a spoon will take too much time and the pudding will start to harden. Once that happens you won’t be able to get a smooth look top to your pies. It will still taste just as good though!
- Store your pudding pies in the refrigerator, covered, up to 5 days.
What Pudding and Topping to Use for Mini Chocolate Pudding Pies
- You can use any pudding you’d like! And you can mix them, too! (If you are going to mix them, you need to add 1 1/2 cups of milk for every box you use.) For example, mix:
- Chocolate and Cheesecake
- Red Velvet and Cheesecake
- Chocolate and Vanilla
- Or you can use any of the following pudding:
- Oreo
- Butterscotch
- Chocolate
- Vanilla
- Cheesecake
- Pistachio
- Coconut Cream
- You can top your mini pudding pies with any candy topping you’d like:
- Whip Cream (You could try the new Reese’s whip cream!)
- Chocolate Curls or Shavings
- M & M’s
- Crushed Butterfinger
- Regular or Mini Chocolate Chips
- Reese’s Pieces
- Sprinkles
- Any Candy Bar Crushed
How to Make Chocolate Curls or Shavings
Using a thick chocolate bar of choice, take a peeler (like one you would use to peel carrots) and run it along the side of the chocolate bar. Easy peasy!
How to Layer Flavor in a Mini Chocolate Pudding Pie
If you would like to make two different layers of flavor in your pudding pies, make the first layer of flavor and distribute evenly in the pies. Let set before making the second layer. Once set, make the second layer of pudding and distribute evenly in the pies. Let set.
When was the last time you got crazy in the kitchen? And I don’t mean crazy. I mean turn up the tunes, let go of expectations, and have fun changing up an old recipe! Do it, you won’t regret it!
