Have fun in the kitchen with your family making this perfect Fall treat after picking apples!
Apple Hand Pies
We have had unseasonably hot weather this Fall! It’s late September and we have the air conditioner on! It’s crazy. I keep telling myself to remember we had an extended Summer when Winter comes.
I like Fall to actually feel like Fall when I am baking with apples and pumpkins, like these Baked Apple Hand Pies! I should be in a sweatshirt, not a tank top!
Regardless of the weather, the fresh produce knows what time of year it is. So if you have apples to use up, I think you’ll like Easy Apple Crisp, Apple Fritters, Baked Apple Cider Donuts, and Apple Fritter Cinnamon Roll Bake!
What You’ll Need for the Hand Pies:
- 1 box Refrigerated Pie Crusts
- 1/4 cup Butter
- 2 cups Apples, Peeled & Diced
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
- 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 2 tbsp Flour
- 1 Egg White, Beaten
And the Glaze:
- 2 cups Powdered Sugar
- 2-3 tbsp Milk
How to Make Baked Apple Hand Pies
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Remove pie crusts from one package and let reach room temperature.
- In the meantime, peel, core, and dice enough apples to reach 2 cups.
- In a large skillet, melt 1/4 cup butter over medium heat. Add diced apples, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 1 tsp cinnamon. Heat for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are soft.
- While apples are cooking, unroll pie crusts onto parchment paper. Using a 4″ biscuit cutter, cut about 6-7 circles from each crust. (You may have to roll scraps to get enough circles) Set aside.
- When the apples are soft, coat with 2 tbsp flour. Heat for additional minute, stirring thoroughly.
- Scoop 1 tbsp of apple mixture into the center of each pie crust circle. Fold in half and pinch edges together firmly. Poke hand pie with a fork to prevent from bursting.
- Beat 1 egg white in a small bowl. Brush over the tops of each hand pie.
- Transfer the pies to a parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
- In the meantime, make the glaze by whisking together 2 cups powdered sugar and 2-3 tbsp milk.
- After removing the hand pies from the oven, drop them in the glaze and coat completely. Return to the parchment paper and let set.
