Strawberry Donut Sandwich
I recently had a nightmare about my husband going to prison for 10 years. It was so traumatizing I woke up with a headache! I was a wreck – stiff, sweaty, and terrified! As hard as I tried, I couldn’t sleep without this nightmare haunting me throughout the night!
It was so vivid I remembered it the next day and told my husband all about it. He was just as relieved as I was that it wasn’t true. To help me move past it, he attempted to make me laugh by calling me later in the day and pretend like it was a collect call that I had to accept or decline from the jail. I chose to accept and we got a good laugh out of it!
I feel like both humor and donuts are the cure all, especially when it’s a Donut Strawberry Shortcake! You can keep it super easy by just buying donuts, but the best way to make these is with my all-time favorite recipe for Baked Cinnamon Sugar Donuts!
What You’ll Need:
- 6 Store Bought Donuts
- Strawberries, Sliced
- 8 oz Cool Whip, Thawed
How to Make Donut Strawberry Shortcake
- Cut 6 store bought donuts in half and lay out on parchment paper.
- Clean, hull, and slice strawberries and layer on the bottom halves of each sliced donut.
- Place a dollop of Cool Whip on top of the strawberries.
- Put top half of donut over the Cool Whip.
Recipe Notes:
- Layers – It’s best to layer the strawberries first, then the Cool Whip. It’s likely you’ll have a mess if you do it the other way around!
- Donuts – You can use any donuts you’d like, except filled ones!
- Making ahead – You can make these a day ahead, but I wouldn’t make them any farther ahead than that.
