A cute and easy way to say Happy Valentine’s Day to your family at breakfast!
Heart-Shaped Pop Tarts
If you’ve been a supporter of my blog for awhile, you know that I regret not learning to be a graphic or web designer in college. So instead of going back to school, I have been teaching myself over the years. One of my favorite things to create is free printables, especially for Valentine’s Day!
And Valentine’s Day is coming! Which means my son’s classroom is preparing their Valentine boxes and we are working on getting his Valentine cards ready. We are down to the wire because my son can’t decide what he wants to do for his cards – football or Lego theme.
As I was reminding him that he needs to decide soon, he asks, “Do we have to do something homemade?” I felt a thump in my throat and my heart sank. I wasn’t sure what to say. Was he embarrassed or did he think it would save time?! I love being crafty with him, but if store bought is his decision then I will have to accept my fate and just keep crafting for my readers!
While he decides what he wants to do, I’ll just be over here crafting with my food and making these Heart Shaped Valentine’s Day Pop Tarts!
What You’ll Need:
- 1 box Pillsbury Store Bought Pre-Made Pie Crusts
- Strawberry Fruit Spread (Any flavor works!)
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 tbsp Milk
- Valentine Sprinkles
How to Make Heart Shaped Valentine’s Day Pop Tarts
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Set two pre-made pie crusts out. Once they have reached room temperature, unroll one of the pie crusts and press a heart shaped cookie cutter into the crust as many times as you can.
- Transfer the hearts to the prepared baking sheet.
- Spoon the fruit spread into the centers of the hearts. Make sure it doesn’t go all the way to the edge, you’ll need room to seal the pop tarts.
- Using the heart shaped cookie cutter again, cut an equal number of hearts out of the second crust and place them over the top of the fruit spread. Seal the edges with a fork.
- Place them in the oven for 10-12 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let cool.
- Once cooled, make the icing by combining 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 tbsp milk. You don’t want the icing too thick or too thin, so you may have to adjust so it isn’t too runny on the pop tart. To make thicker, add powdered sugar. To make thinner, add milk.
- Spoon the icing onto the center of the pop tart and gently move icing around the top, stopping just before the fork marks.
- Let sit for a minute or two, then sprinkle with Valentine sprinkles. (Note: If you add sprinkles too soon they will just sink into the icing. You want them to sit on top of the icing nicely.)

Recipe Notes:
- Icing consistency – Test the consistency of the icing before putting onto the pop tart by letting it drip off the spoon you stir it with first. It should be thin enough to spread, but thick enough so it doesn’t run all over.
- Sprinkles – Let the icing sit on the pop tart for a minute or two, then sprinkle with Valentine sprinkles. If you add sprinkles too soon they will just sink into the icing. You want them to sit on top of the icing nicely, but not fall off.
- Stacking – The icing will get firm, but not firm enough to stack the hearts on top of each other.
