How to Make Bread Without Yeast
Bloggers had to shift their efforts during the pandemic. Some ingredients were all of a sudden hard to find, so Internet searches for things like No Yeast Bread became popular overnight!
My favorite method of bread making is by bread machine – dump in the ingredients, press a few buttons, and before I know it the house smells like fresh baked bread with very little effort. So my first thought when recipes for bread without yeast skyrocketed was… Grandma!
Making bread really isn’t my thing, unless it’s Easy Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, Vegan Lemon Blueberry Bread, Pumpkin Bread, or Lemon Poppy Seed Bread!
You should know this bread is not light, airy, or bouncy. It’s made without yeast, so you’ll notice a difference. It’s a ‘quick bread’ and has a different feel and texture then regular sandwich bread. The texture is a little more firm so the slices should be thin for a sandwich and a little thicker for toast.
What You’ll Need:
- 4 cups Flour
- 8 tsp Baking Powder
- 3 tsp Sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp Salt
- 2 1/4 cups Milk
- 1/4 cup Oil
How to Make Bread Without Yeast
- Preheat oven to 430 degrees. Spray a 9 x 5 bread pan with non-stick spray and set aside.
- Whisk together 4 cups flour, 8 tsp baking powder, 3 tsp sugar, and 1 1/2 tsp salt.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour in 2 1/4 cups milk and 1/4 cup oil. Mix until well combined. Batter will be thick.
- Pour batter into loaf pan and smooth the surface.
- Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cover with foil.
- Turn oven down to 390 degrees. Once temperature is reached, bake additional 20 minutes.
- Remove from oven, remove foil, and let cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Transfer to cooling rack and allow bread to cool for 30 minutes before slicing.
Recipe Notes:
- Flour – Using bread flour isn’t going to give you a better result like it would in bread made with yeast.
- Purpose – This bread can be used for sandwich bread if the slices are thin. However, I like this bread better toasted for a BLT versus a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
- Milk – Any milk you prefer will work for this recipe!
