Easy Grinch Dip
My son is currently in need of money so he is trying to come up with every way possible to earn it. We try to put his problems back on him as much as possible so he learns how to come up with solutions- theoretically that approach should improve his self-concept.
He gets frustrated with us when we tell him we are preparing him for adulthood, because he is just a kid. While it’s true that he is just a kid, giving him control over his decisions and experiencing those consequences while still in our care will give him an advantage later in life that he doesn’t understand right now.
For example, he overspent on action figures. He didn’t leave much left and now he needs money. We could give him the money because we want him to be happy, but we love him too much to become entitled. So his solution was offering to do some work around the house to earn money. We thought that was a great idea!
We want to teach him that he has to work to earn money and that he needs to plan ahead financially. He strongly feels he is getting underpaid for the chores, but we don’t always get what we want. And that’s okay. We live in a world of instant gratification. We want better for him than that. We love him way too much to just give him what he wants!
For the record, I just made that sound a whole lot easier than it really is! We screw up and have to recalibrate often, but the small wins are encouraging!
Speaking of winning, this Grinch Dip will be a winner for your holiday parties this year! It’s so fun and easy to make. You can dunk just about anything into it, I just grabbed what I had around the house. You could use Oreos, pretzels, wafer cookies, marshmallows, Nilla wafers, fruit, or graham crackers. When it comes to dipping into this delicious, anything goes! And here’s a genius idea someone else came up with – you can use it as frosting, too!
