Halloween Chex Mix
When I came across this recipe for Monster Munch Chex Mix, I knew I had to make it for an upcoming hayride and bonfire. Except, I deviated from the original recipe and added candy corn and caramel pieces. I got the idea of adding caramel from my Blizzard Party Mix recipe. I also swapped out plain rice Chex for peanut butter Chex. Next time I make this, I will swap it out for one of the Halloween themed cereals!
You can run free with this idea, make it however you’d like! I’ve made this as Cupid’s Crunch Chex Mix for Valentine’s Day, Patriotic Party Mix for 4th of July, and Bunny Bait for Easter!
What You’ll Need:
- 2 1/2 cups Pretzels
- 2 1/2 cups Honey Nut Cheerios
- 2 1/2 cups Peanut Butter Chex Cereal
- 1 cup Peanuts
- 1 cup Candy Corn
- 1 bag Halloween M&M’s
- 1 bag Kraft Caramels, Halved
- 2 1/2 cups White Chocolate Chips
- 1 1/2 tbsp Crisco
How to Make Monster Munch Chex Mix
- Unwrap 1 bag of Kraft caramels, cut each piece in half and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups pretzels, 2 1/2 cups Honey Nut Cheerios, 2 1/2 cups Peanut Butter Chex cereal, 1 cup peanuts, 1 cup candy corn, 1 bag Halloween M&M’s, and halved caramels.
- Lay out a large piece of parchment paper on the counter.
- Melt 2 1/2 cups white chocolate chips with 1 1/2 tbsp Crisco until smooth in a microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Pour the melted chocolate over the mix and stir until well combined and covered.
- Spread over parchment paper and let sit until hardened. Once set, break into smaller pieces.
Recipe Notes:
- Cheerios – You can use any flavor of Cheerios, I like to swap them with Kix. Any cereal works!
- Chex – You can also use any flavor of Chex. The original recipe called for Rice Chex, I swapped with peanut butter!
- M&M’s – You can use any kind of M&M that you’d like! The original recipe used candy corn M&M’s. I decided to use milk chocolate M&M’s and candy corns.
- Crisco – If you don’t have Crisco, you can swap with vegetable oil.
- Melting chocolate – The fastest way to melt chocolate is in the microwave. Use a microwave safe bowl, and stir every 30-60 seconds.
- Mix-in’s – You can mix in anything you’d like, such as raisins or Halloween cereal. If you add anything in addition the recipe, be sure to increase the amount of melted chocolate. If you swap, just use the amount called for in the recipe.
