The Cookie Everyone Reaches For!
I am sending a care package to a dear childhood friend of mine to include these Soft & Chewy M&M Cookies! There is just something happy about a colorful cookie, especially with chocolate packed in every bite!
She and I share many fond memories together from the summer’s we spent together at our cabin. From bike rides down a long gravel road to rent a VHS at the corner gas station to screaming from an inner tube behind the boat!
I am so very lucky to have a childhood packed with great memories. I want the same thing for my son, so we are always looking for fun things to do in the summer. Whether it’s a simple day at the pool to a day trip to Bay Beach, we are trying to give our son lasting fond family memories. We really cherish the time we spend together!
If you want to bake someone happy, then you can also give them Levain Bakery Chocolate Chip Cookies, Spring Blossom Cookies, or Pillsbury Heart Cookie Sandwiches, too!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
How do I keep M&M cookies soft & chewy?
The key is not overbaking. Pull the cookies out when the centers still look slightly underdone – they will continue to set as they cool and stay soft.
Why did my M&M cookies turn out hard?
Hard cookies are usually caused by overbaking or too much flour. Measuring flour correctly and baking just until the edges are set helps prevent this.
Do I need to chill the dough?
No, not for this recipe. This dough is designed to bake right away. Chilling can help prevent spreading, but it’s optional unless the dough feels very soft.
Can I freeze cookies?
Yes! Store in a freezer safe bag or container for up to 3 months.
Recipe Notes:
- Baking Time – You want the edges of the cookies to be set, but the center slightly underdone. This creates a soft cookie. For a crispier cookie, bake for additional 1-2 minutes.
- Round Cookies – As soon as the cookie come out of the oven, use the back of a cookie turner/flipper to gently push in the edges of the cookies to round them.
- Pretty Cookies – Press in additional M&M’s and chocolate chips as soon as they come out of the oven to give the cookie a pretty finished look!
