A traditional holiday drink that’s rich and creamy with the perfect blend of cinnamon and vanilla!
Traditional Eggnog Recipe
People either love or hate this rich and creamy holiday drink. My family is ‘team love it!’ It’s very nostalgic for me. Now we’ve made it part of our own Christmas memories every year!
It’s our tradition to watch the Grinch movies while sipping on a glass of Eggnog. We only have one glass a year, so we really make it count by savoring it! I must confess though, I don’t actually have time to make it. My Grandma made this for you! But in the event there is a crisis and we have a shortage, I am sharing this recipe for Homemade Eggnog! Because in a crisis, the first thing we are going to be worried about is Eggnog. HA!!
If you have extra, leave a glass of it out for Santa. You can set out some Gingerbread Cookies, Soft Christmas Cutout Sugar Cookies, Peanut Butter Blossoms, or 2-Ingredient Peanut Butter Cup Cookies with it!
What You’ll Need:
- 6 Egg Yolks
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream
- 2 cups Whole Milk
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp Vanilla
How to Make Homemade Eggnog
- In a small bowl, whisk together 6 egg yolks and 1 cup sugar until light and creamy.
- Then in a sauce pan over medium heat, combine 1 cup heavy whipping cream, 2 cups whole milk, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Stir over the heat until the mixture reaches a simmer.
- Very slowly whisk the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture, one spoonful at a time. Adding the mixture too fast will scramble the eggs.
- Once the mixture is combined, pour it back into the sauce pan.
- Heat over low heat, whisking until the mixture is slightly thickened. It will thicken more as it cools.
- Remove from the heat and whisk in 1/4 tsp vanilla.
- Store in the refrigerator until chilled and thickened.
