These Oreo Dirt Cake Cups are a fun, no‑bake dessert made with layers of creamy chocolate pudding, sweetened cream cheese, fluffy whipped topping, and crushed Oreo cookies!

Oreo Dirt Cake Cups with Cream Cheese!
You’ve heard me talk about our cabin on the lake we had when I was a kid. This recipe is my favorite reminder of the cabin. My Grandma would make a big bowl of dirt cake for us, loaded with gummy worms and garnished with Black Eyed Susan’s. As kids we just thought that was the greatest thing! We have so many fun and fond memories of summers spent there!
These Oreo Dirt Cake Cups happen to be one of my son’s favorite treats, too! And being that it’s his birthday, his super cool teacher welcomed a treat for him to take to school and share with his classmates.
A headline for an article recently caught my attention. I didn’t take the time to read it, but from what I could tell the article was telling Mom’s everywhere that we don’t need tree shaped treats for Arbor Day, to take it down a notch.
I told my husband, ‘That’s me!’ And I can’t take it down a notch. I live for being ‘that’ Mom! The one that can be over the top sometimes. I love it, I can’t get enough of it!
That’s because I get a lot of joy out of baking for other people, especially for little people! Kids are my favorite and baking is my love language.
My childhood consists of so many wonderful memories, I want to give the same gift to my son. I can’t afford expensive things or vacations, so I put effort into the details, just like my Grandma did for us. I try to sprinkle in extra love wherever I can!
Why this Recipe Works:
- Oreos Create the Perfect ‘Dirt’ Texture – This recipe works because it balances rich chocolate flavor with a light, creamy texture – while keeping everything simple and no-bake!
- Instant Pudding Delivers Reliable Results – Instant chocolate pudding thickens quickly and consistently, making this recipe easy and foolproof without the need for cooking or chilling for hours.
- Simple Layers Gives Visual Appeal and Balance – Alternating cookie crumbs with the creamy filling ensures every spoonful has the perfect mix of crunch and smoothness.
- Gummy Worms Add Fun – I love how the gummy worms make these nostalgic treats playful and kid-friendly!

Ingredients You’ll Need:
- 1 package Oreos (Crushed) – Creates the ‘dirt’ layers and adds rich chocolate crunch throughout the dessert.
- 4 tbsp Butter (Softened) – Helps bind the Oreo crumbs and adds richness.
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar – Sweetens the cream cheese layer while keeping it smooth and light.
- 8 oz Cream Cheese (Softened) – Forms the creamy base and adds a slightly tangy balance to the sweetness.
- 2 (3.9 oz each) Packages Instant Chocolate Pudding – Provides classic chocolate flavor and structure without baking.
- 3 1/2 cups Milk – Activates and thickens the pudding for a smooth, spoonable texture.
- 12 oz Cool Whip – Lightens the filling, making the cups fluffy and creamy.
- Gummy Worms – A fun optional topping that gives these cups their classic ‘dirt cake’ look.

- Pudding mixture & gummy worm
- Crushed Oreos
- Garnish top with a flower and/or additional gummy worm and crushed Oreos.

My Best Tips:
- Make Ahead Success Tip – These hold up nicely if you make them one day ahead, but I don’t recommend making them any farther ahead than that. The cookie crumbs will start to soften.
- Use Instant Pudding – Any brand of instant chocolate pudding will work, but it must be instant. Use the 3.9 oz size box.
- Variations You Can Make:
- Graveyard – Use tombstone shaped cookies or candy and write R.I.P. on them. Stick into the top of each cup and garnish with Halloween candy. Or, save time by making these Halloween Dirt Cake Pudding Cups instead.
- Sandy Beach – Use golden Oreos and decorate with little umbrellas.
- Construction – Use toy tractors and/or construction themed toys to garnish with. It’s especially exciting to kids when they get to take the decorations home!
- Dinosaur – Use small toy dinosaurs to decorate with for dinosaur themed birthday parties!
- Easter – Decorate with bunny Peeps, candy eggs, or other Easter candy. Or, save time by making these Easter Dirt Cake Pudding Cups instead.
- Garden – Use little flowers to garnish with.
- Earth Day – Garnish with nature themed decorations.
- Recommended Cup Size – I recommend using 9 oz clear cups. They are ideal for showing off the layers, but mason jars or small glasses work just as well.
