Save time by planing ahead for your breakfast in the coming week with these easy to make healthy green smoothies!
What Is Meal Prepping?
- Meal prepping means you are planning ahead for your meals in the coming week by preparing some or all of your meals ahead of time. It’s like grabbing a frozen TV dinner, but healthier! It saves so much time, helps with portion control which contributes to weight loss, and you aren’t eating processed food. The idea behind meal prepping is to have healthier food ready to eat so you eat the healthier already prepared options instead of hitting the drive-thru!
How to Meal Prep Grab and Go Smoothies
- I love the idea of grabbing the cups from the freezer. All I need to do is blend the ingredients and pour the smoothie right back into the cup! But, if you don’t don’t have room in the freezer you can easily follow these same steps except swap the cups for freezer bags.
- There are 3 people in my family, so I line up 15 cups. I fill all of the cups about half full with spinach, then I push the spinach down to make room for the frozen fruit.
- Then I grab the first 3 cups and fill them each up with the same ingredients. That way, when I am making the smoothie in the morning all of our smoothies are the same flavor. Then I grab the next 3 cups and fill them up with the same ingredients, except for a different flavor.
- Repeat this process until all of the cups are filled.
- NOTE: Fill your cups full! Be generous with the spinach and frozen fruit. Once everything is blended it fills up less of the cup then the frozen fruit does.
- Once all of the cups are filled, I put the lids on all of the cups and place in the freezer.
- When it’s time to make a smoothie, I dump all of the ingredients from 3 of the cups with the same ingredients into a Vitamix. Then I add a can of fruit, whichever can of fruit goes with the smoothie you have chosen for the day. You can also add in your choice of other healthy ingredients into your smoothies!
- Evenly distribute your smoothies back into the cups, seal with a lid, and poke a smoothie straw through the lid.

Tips for Making the Best Smoothies
- There are a ton of smoothie recipes out there! I find the more ingredients in the smoothie, the less I like the taste. So I try to keep it simple.
- There are a few healthy ingredients you can add that don’t alter the taste of the smoothie. Flax seed and chia seeds usually mind their own business in a smoothie and don’t alter the taste!
- However, if you add nut or seed butter that will be the dominant flavor you taste.
- Protein powder may not alter the taste, however it might change the texture.
- Make sure you adjust the number of cans of fruit you are using in proportion the the smoothies you are making. You may need more or less based on the size of your family.
- You can also make more than just a week’s worth. You could make enough for the whole month!
How to Sweeten a Smoothie without Sugar
- Honey
- Maple Syrup
- Agave
- Can of Fruit
NOTE: I sweeten all of our smoothies with cans of fruit. I love this method, because it doubles as the liquid portion of the smoothie! I don’t ever use milk, non-dairy milk, or yogurt in our smoothies because I don’t need to. The can of fruit does all of the work – without altering the taste of the smoothie!
