Party in the sun with this patriotic themed snack mix complete with waffle cone tips for the perfect splash of summer!
Patriotic Party Mix
I had extra 4th of July Puppy Chow I didn’t know what to do with. Then I found a bag of bite-sized Waffle Cone Tips at TJ Maxx, so right away I knew I had to make this 4th of July Snack Mix!
The beauty of this snack mix is you can throw anything you want into it! I love ideas where anything goes, or you can easily change the idea for the holiday. For example, you can easily change out the sprinkles on these 4th of July Sprinkle Cake Mix Cookies or 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats! And you can swap out the M&M’s on these 4th of July Brownies!
What You’ll Need:
- 8 cups Rice Chex Cereal
- 1 cup Red Candy Melts
- 1 cup Royal Blue Candy Melts
- 1/2 cup Peanut Butter, Creamy
- 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil
- 2 cups Powdered Sugar
- White Chocolate Covered Pretzels
- Red, White & Blue M&M’s
- Ice Cream Cone Tips, Optional
How to Make Snack Mix for 4th of July
- Lay 2 sheets of parchment paper on the counter, one for each color.
- Pour 4 cups of Rice Chex Cereal in a medium size bowl.
- In a separate, microwave safe bowl, melt 1 cup red candy melts, 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter, and 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil together in 30 second intervals, stirring after each 30 seconds until smooth and well combined.
- Pour mixture over the Rice Chex Cereal. Stir well to evenly coat.
- Pour 1 cup powdered sugar into a gallon zip lock bag then add cereal mixture.
- Close and seal the bag and thoroughly shake it up until very well coated.
- Pour onto one of the prepared sheets and let cool.
- Then repeat the entire process to coat the second 4 cups of Rice Chex Cereal with the royal blue candy melts.
- Once both colors of Puppy Chow are cooled, combine in a large bowl and mix together with desired amount of red, white, and blue M&M’s and white chocolate covered pretzels.
- Toss in anything else you’d like, such as these ice cream cone tips!
Recipe Notes:
- Blue candy melts – Make sure to use royal blue candy melts. If you use light blue then you’ll end up with green because the peanut butter alters the color.
- Waffle cone tips – I found these and thought they were a great splash of summer in this mix!
- Mix-in’s – You could use yogurt covered raisins, a different flavor of M&M’s (like peanut butter), dried berries, or nuts. Whatever you’d like!
