Easy Corn Dog Recipe
Every June we attend Camp Meeting in Wisconsin. We spend 9 days camping (well, glamping in a camper) on a huge camp ground filled with families who are there for spiritual rejuvenation! We attend meetings about health, family, parenting, and spirituality. The kids attend meetings with music, crafts, and stories! And throughout the week we go swimming, lay in a hammock, visit with friends and family, and enjoy the sunshine in the great outdoors!
In the center of the camp ground is a store and snack shop. The snack shop is known for their delicious deep-fried corn dogs. We look forward to getting one every year! Until then, we will enjoy these Homemade Corn Dogs!
You can easily make a meal out of them by serving Baked Beans or Air Fryer Potato Wedges with them!

What You’ll Need:
- 2 quarts Vegetable Oil
- 3/4 cup Yellow Cornmeal
- 3/4 cup Flour
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 Egg
- 2 tbsp Honey
- 3/4 cup Buttermilk
- 2 tsp Oil
- 8 Hot Dogs + Skewers

How to Make Homemade Corn Dogs
- In a large pot, heat 2 quarts of vegetable oil to 350 degrees.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 3/4 cup yellow cornmeal, 3/4 cup flour, 1 tbsp sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, and 1 1/2 tsp baking powder.
- Stir in 1 egg, 2 tbsp honey, 3/4 cup buttermilk, and 2 tsp vegetable oil. Let mixture sit for 10 minutes to thicken.
- Meanwhile this allows the oil to heat up to temperature. Remove hot dogs from packaging and place skewers through the center of the hot dog.
- Pour batter into a tall drinking glass. Dunk each skewered hot dog into the cornmeal, let access drip off, then place into the hot oil.
- Turn the corn dogs frequently with tongs to brown evenly. Cook for about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove with tongs and transfer to a paper towel lined plate. Repeat with remaining hot dogs.
Recipe Notes:
- Skewers – Use actual skewers, not straws like I did in the picture. They are great for appearance, but not practical because oil drips out of them as you eat the corn dog!
- Batter – If you need to thin the batter, just add a little more buttermilk.

What to Serve with Corn Dogs:
- Vegetarian Doritos Taco Salad
- Baked Beans
- Pesto Tortellini Pasta Salad
- Honey Butter Skillet Corn
- Vegan Potato Salad
