A sweet fruit soup made with tapioca that can be served warm or cold. This soup is traditionally served for holidays but can be made any time!
My Mom used to make us Fruit Soup when we were kids for Christmas every year. We thought it was the greatest thing! It’s not a tradition that I’ve kept going; we’ve made new traditions in it’s place.
Have you ever looked through your Grandma’s recipes and found the strangest recipes you’ve ever seen? When my Great-Grandma passed away, I was gifted her recipe box. It’s an old red metal box with a small drawer that pulls out. She lived at our cabin during the summers for many years. Every summer I remember seeing her treasured recipe box tucked away safely in the same spot. I never looked through it as a child, but as an adult I was convinced I was going to find all sorts of long-lost recipes that I couldn’t wait to try.
But as I looked through the recipes I realized it was likely I wouldn’t try making most of them. They were the strangest recipes, with ingredients I had either never heard of or aren’t sold in the store anymore. I remember repeatedly asking myself, ‘Why?’ I couldn’t figure out why she would make some of those things! Then it hit me. In those days they used what they had. They didn’t have all of the options we have now! Our recipes are so different then they once were. I am convinced that Fruit Soup is one of those strange recipes that was created during a time when they used what they had!
