Best Apple Fritter Monkey Bread Recipe!
I learned about Love & Logic Parenting when my son was little, and what a gift it has been through all of the seasons. They reinforce concepts we are all familiar with, but in a way that works.
They give you one liners for the hard moments. For example, when my son was little he heard over and over, “I put you in a time out because I love you,” or “I won’t let you throw a tantrum because I love you,” or “I will not allow you to hit me because I love you.” From an early age, he learned that discipline equals love.
As he’s gotten older, I find myself saying, “You mow the lawn because we love you enough to make sure you grow into being a responsible adult,” or, “I love you too much to argue,” or “Because we love you, we can’t allow you to spend all of your money, you need to save some of it,” or most recently on repeat, “You have chores because we love you. You are an important part of this family.”
“Because we love you” has probably been said more than any other words in our house! I challenge you to try shutting down any confrontation, complaining, or questioning from your kids the next time they try to argue themselves out of important work or put themselves in position that leaves you no choice but to respond with consequence. It has saved me a bazillion times from trying to think of ‘the right’ thing to say! It’s short, sweet, and final.
I can promise there won’t be any fussing about this Apple Fritter Monkey Bread!
Why this Recipe Works:
- Refrigerated Biscuits Make is Quick and Foolproof – Using Pillsbury Grands Biscuits eliminates the need for homemade dough while still creating a soft, fluffy pull apart texture.
- Brown Sugar and Butter Create a Caramel Sauce – As the Monkey Bread bakes, the melted butter and brown sugar transforms into a rich, gooey glaze that coats every bite.
- Fresh Cooked Apples Add Authentic Apple Fritter Flavor – Cooking the apples with butter, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice softens them and creates a flavorful filling that tastes like a classic Apple Fritter.
Ingredients You’ll Need for the Apples:
- 3 Apples (Peeled & Diced) – Provides fresh apple flavor and tender bites throughout the monkey bread.
- 2 tbsp Sugar – Sweetens the apples as they cook.
- 1 tsp Cinnamon – Adds warm spice and classic Apple Fritter flavor.
- 1 tbsp Lemon Juice – Enhances the apple flavor and helps prevent browning.
- 1 tbsp Butter – Creates a rich, buttery texture while sautéing the apples.
- 1-2 tbsp Water – Helps soften the apples and creates a light syrup.
The Monkey Bread:
- 2 (16 oz) cans Pillsbury Grands Buttermilk Biscuits – Serves as the soft, fluffy base for the pull-apart bread.
- 1 cup Sugar – Coats the biscuit pieces for sweetness and a crisp exterior.
- 2 tbsp Cinnamon – Combines with the sugar to create a cinnamon sugar coating.
- 1 cup Brown Sugar – Melts into a rich caramel like sauce during baking.
- 1/2 cup Butter (Melted) – Blends with the brown sugar to form a gooey, buttery glaze.
And the Icing:
- 1 cup Powdered Sugar – Forms the base of the sweet icing drizzle.
- 1-2 tbsp Apple Juice – Adds apple flavor while creating a smooth icing consistency.
- 1/4 tsp Vanilla – Enhances the sweetness and gives the icing a bakery style flavor.
How to Make Apple Fritter Monkey Bread
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Generously cover the inside of a Bundt pan with non-stick spray.
- Peel, core, and dice 3 apples. Toss with 2 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, and 1 tbsp lemon juice.
- Melt 1 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add apples and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until apples are tender and the liquid is gone. (If apples seem dry, or brown too quickly, add 1 tbsp water periodically to help them soften and not burn.) Cool slightly.
- Place half of the caramelized apples in the bottom of the pan.
- Cut each biscuit into quarters.
- Add 1 cup sugar and 2 tbsp cinnamon to a gallon Ziplock bag. Shake to mix.
- Put half the quartered biscuits into the cinnamon sugar mixture. Shake to coat until all of the pieces are covered. Distribute evenly into the prepared pan.
- Place the other half of the caramelized apples on top of the biscuits.
- Coat remaining quartered biscuits and place in the pan.
- Once all of the pieces are in the pan, place 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup butter into a small sauce pan over low heat. Stir until melted and well combined.
- Pour evenly over the biscuits.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let sit for only a few minutes, then turn over onto a dinner plate.
- Make icing by whisking together 1 cup powdered sugar, 1-2 tbsp apple juice, and 1/4 tsp vanilla.
- Drizzle over the slightly cooled monkey bread.
My Best Tips:
- Use Firm Baking Apples – Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady apples hold their shape well and provide the perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors.
- Grease the Bundt Pan Generously – The caramel sauce can become sticky during the baking, so a well greased pan helps the bread release cleanly.
- Avoid Overbaking – Bake until the top is golden brown and the center is cookie through. Overbaking will make the bread dry.
