Thick Bakery Style Monster Cookies!
There is something special about a great Bakery Style Monster Cookie. They’re thick, soft in the center, packed with oats, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and colorful M&M’s, and somehow stay chewy for days. While many homemade Monster Cookies turn out flat or crumbly, this recipe is absolute perfection and will quickly be a bakery-worthy treat everyone loves.
This is my all-time very favorite cookie recipe and I am so excited to share it with you! I can’t take credit for it though, I found it at Blue Bowl Recipes!
Why this Recipe Works:
- Peanut Butter Equals Softness and Structure – It also binds the oats and mix-in’s together without making the cookie cakey, adding structure so the cookies don’t spread into thin discs.
- Large Scoops Make Perfect Cookies – The outer edge sets first while the center remains soft. The contrast between slightly firm edges and a thick chewy center is one of the hallmarks of bakery cookies.
- Extra M&M’s and Chocolate Chips Gives Bakery Appearance – When mix-in’s are visible on top the cookies look more loaded and appear more premium.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- 1 cup Butter (Softened) – Adds rich flavor and creates a soft, tender cookie texture.
- 1/2 cup Peanut Butter – Provides the classic Monster Cookie flavor and helps keep the cookies chewy.
- 3/4 cup Sugar – Sweetens the cookies and contributes to lightly crisp edges.
- 3/4 cup Brown Sugar – Adds moisture, a caramel like flavor, and a softer texture.
- 2 Eggs – Binds the ingredients together and helps the cookies rise and stay tender.
- 1 tsp Vanilla – Enhances the overall flavor with warm, sweet notes.
- 2 3/4 cups Flour – Forms the structure of the cookies and gives them their bakery style thickness.
- 1 tsp Baking Soda – Leavening agent that helps the cookies spread and rise properly.
- 1/4 tsp Salt – Balances the sweetness and enhances the flavors.
- 1 cup Old Fashioned Rolled Oats – Adds hearty texture and the classic Monster Cookie chew.
- 1 1/4 cups M&M’s – Provides colorful crunch and bursts of chocolate flavor throughout the cookies.
- 1 cup Chocolate Chips – Adds rich, melty chocolate in every bite.
How to Make Thick Bakery Style Monster Cookies
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup softened butter and 1/2 cup peanut butter.
- Mix in 3/4 cup sugar and 3/4 cup brown sugar until well creamed.
- Add in 2 eggs and 1 tsp vanilla.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together 2 3/4 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, and 1/4 tsp salt.
- Mix the dry mixture into the wet ingredients just until combined.
- Then mix in 1 cup old fashioned rolled oats, 1 1/4 cups M&M’s, and 1 cup chocolate chips.
- Place 4 tbsp size scoops of cookie dough on the prepared baking sheet, leaving room between each cookie to spread. (I recommend putting only 6 dough balls on the pan at a time.)
- Bake for 10 minutes.
My Best Tips:
- Reshape the Cookies – With the edge of a spatula right after removing from the oven while they are still soft.
- Finishing Touch – Press in additional M&M’s and chocolate chips right after reshaping and removing from the oven.
- Let the Dough Rest After Baking – Leave cookies on the baking sheet for 5-10 minutes before moving them. This helps the centers finish setting and the cookies stay thick and chewy.
