Welcome! Here’s a little bit about me (Jamie) from ‘Baking You Happier’ and why I am sharing my personal journey publicly.
I have been married to the luckiest man in the world for 12 years, together for a total of 16 years! We have one child, a sweet four year old boy. We live in a small central Wisconsin suburb.
I started this blog to be able to spend more time focusing on the things I love – my husband, my son, my church, my garden, my family, and my friends.
Even though we are just meeting, I care about you, too. I am here to help you with your perspective on weight loss, relationships, and Christianity (three areas of our lives that are very closely connected) through my own personal journey. This blog will provide you with vegetarian and vegan recipes (my favorite desserts, too!), what not to do in your marriage, and motivation to make changes you’ve felt too overwhelmed to make. Read more about what I am hoping you get from subscribing to my updates.
Through my very real story, I’ll share how I grew to be resilient. You’ll find out how I saved my marriage the week before my divorce was to be final (we’re more in love now than the day we married!), you’ll learn what it means to let go and give God control, and you’ll find a friend in me to give you the encouragement and/or prayer you need to live a happier life!
Here are answers to a few questions I anticipate getting:
Q: How long have you been a vegetarian?
A: I was raised a vegetarian, so I’ve gone my entire life without eating meat! My husband eats meat when we go out to eat, otherwise he eats whatever I make. We are raising our son to be a vegetarian.
Q: You seem pretty convinced there is a God. How can you be so sure?
A: I have lived part of my life without God as the center of it. Comparing my life then to my life now, I’ll never live without Him being my compass again.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: My absolute favorite thing to do is be with my husband and son! I love them more than I can ever put into words. Just about everything I do is with them. We love Legos and fishing! We also enjoy gardening (both flower and vegetable), thrift shopping, going to church, anything and everything outside, the water, trying new things, and I of course love to bake.
Q: What are you doing to lose weight and keep it off?
A: It is not my intention to make it look easy, so let’s make sure we’re clear on that first. It requires work and perseverance. I often feel like loosing weight is a full-time job. It takes a lot of planning, awareness, discipline, support, and prayer! I still have a lot of weight to lose, I am not even close to my goal yet. But my best advice is to plan your meals, take one day at a time, and track the food you are eating. I use an iPhone app called ‘iTrackBites.’ It’s a knock off version of Weight Watchers, without paying the monthly fees.
Feel free to contact me by email at anytime with questions, comments, suggestions, advice, or for any other reason! I am generally pretty quick to respond, however, please keep in mind that I manage my blogging and personal time by responding Monday-Thursday.
